Why It’s Important To Optimise Your Images (Part 2)

Why it’s important to optimise your images (Part 2)

Ever feel like your website is moving slower than molasses in January? It might be time to take a look at your images!

By optimising your images, you can make your website load lightning fast, like Beyoncé at a costume contest.

Here are a few ways to do it:

1. Use a plugin: Plugins are like your website’s BFFs – they make everything easier! There are tons of image compression plugins out there, and they do more than just smush your images down.  We talk about two of our faves in >>Part 3<< (coming next week).

2. TinyPNG: This free tool is like magic for your images!  Just upload your image, and it’ll shrink it down without sacrificing quality.
Bonus points: it works with all sorts of image formats, not just PNGs. You can even upload multiple images at once, so you can optimise your whole website in a flash!

3. Resize your images: Think of your images like your clothes – sometimes they need to be a different size to look their best! Luckily, WordPress has a built-in tool for resizing images. You can choose from different preset sizes, or customise your own.

4. Use a CDN: A CDN is like a superhighway for your website’s content, including images. By using a CDN, your images will be delivered to your visitors from servers all over the world, so they’ll load faster no matter where they are. Popular options include Cloudflare, KeyCDN, and Sucuri.

5. Clean up your media library: Just like your closet, your media library can get cluttered over time. Get rid of any unused images to free up space and make your website run smoother.  There are two ways to do this: manually or with a plugin.
Bonus tip: Before you start cleaning, backup your website! That way, if anything goes wrong, you can easily restore it.

So there you have it! By following these tips, you can optimise your images and make your website run like a dream. Remember, a fast website is a happy website (and a happy visitor is a returning visitor! ).
